Tips For A Garage Door That Is Stuck
A garage door that won't close is definitely not the worst thing in the world, but it's certainly a nuisance. You may have a variety of things inside that you need to keep protected. Fortunately, there are ways to troubleshoot a door that's been giving you problems.
1. Start with the Transmitter
This is by far the easiest fix for your stuck garage door — you may just need to replace the transmitter batteries. All you have to do is test one method to open the door against the other. For example, if the transmitter still works in your car but not on the garage panel, then you'll just need to remove the battery door and replace. It's important to note though that the batteries in the other transmitters (e.g., the remote) will likely also need to be replaced soon.
2. Check the Door Track
If the door still has limited movement, then you can use a rubber mallet to manipulate the rollers and rails of the door so they are entirely lined up. You'll need to loosen the screws and watch what the rollers do as the door moves. If the door isn't moving at all though (and it's an alignment problem), then you'll likely need professional help. You can also inspect the torsion spring as it can become worn out over time.
3. Clean the Photo Eyes
If the safety sensors in the garage door are dirty, they may cause the garage door to stick. Clean the photo eye as carefully as you can, and be sure not to scratch the glass. You can also use a level to ensure that the eyes are aligned. If not, they'll need to be shifted back into place.
